Multimedia Mogul
Kawaski "KCentric" Nelson carves out a niche that incorporates art, music, broadcasting, and multimedia production.
As a native of Alabama, he was raised on AM radio, vinyl records, vintage jazz, old school hip-hop, and 80's music videos.
He discovered early his creative talents as a visual artist drawing and painting in almost every medium. While in school he won various art competitions and eventually received a scholarship from the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design.
Kawaski began his musical journey competing in talent shows, quickly making a name for himself around the local music scene.
In 1995, he formed the duo, A.L.I.A.S., with his cousin, actor Kalonji Gilchrist. They performed together throughout the 90s.
Kawaski took a long hiatus from the spotlight but soon started recording again after completing audio engineering school.
He adopted the moniker KCentric and began writing songs for up and coming artists as well as a few label recording acts.
In 2004, Kawaski made his foray into broadcast television by freelancing as a media production assistant. He has worked on an assortment of programs, including the popular show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. He honed his video and multimedia skills producing commercials, TV shows, PSA spots, and content for websites; later adding shooting and directing to his repertoire.
Around that time he also started composing for TV. He got his first composer's gig when a producer heard one of his songs and asked if he could use it for his new show. He obliged the request and soon after his tunes were being placed on cable networks.
Kawaski's music has been featured on HBO, Discovery, TV Land, MTV, BET, A&E, and numerous radio, web, and
podcasts around the world. He has a growing music fanbase and still works behind the scenes in TV, film, and radio.
He has worked with platinum producer Rick Rock, hip-hop music legend MC Lyte, and is featured on Turkish composer
Murat Ses's albums, Umami and Beside The Sun. He is also a voting member of The Recording Academy (Grammys).
Kawaski is currently collaborating with various DJ's and producers, composing music for tv and web shows, and licensing
his music and digital media to mobile content providers, advertisers, stock music libraries, and video game developers.
